Rhonda Byrne is the creator behind The Secret, a documentary film that swept the world in 2006, changing millions of lives and igniting a global movement.Later that same year, Rhonda’s book of The Secret was released.

Byrne proves there are suckers born every minute – and they buy lots of her books. She is the Jimmy Swaggart of literature. She refuses to give interviews. I would too, if I were her. She has nothing to say. Interviewing her would be like watching Barbie think. The world is lost in a sea of love and light.

Books like these repeat that we get what we deserve. It follows therefore, that you deserve to be poor, or unemployed or sick. The universe has spoken. I’m tired of these SHAM (Self Help Alternative Medicine) gurus. They harm more than they help.
Dying people need support and love, not ridiculous expectations of miracle cures. Poor people need jobs not gibberish about the law of attraction. If this nonsense worked, there would be no sick people and we would all be rolling in money. At least the millions of those who have bought her book would be. Byrne repeats herself, and writes badly. I particularly enjoyed her babbling on about how people “once lived for hundreds and hundreds of years.” Her references are “ancient texts”. Apparently we no longer do this because, “People changed what they believed.” I recommend a healthy dose of common sense and the application of the power of reason for Byrne and her readers.
Amanda Patterson. I was really in need to read some motivational books, and this book was a good choice ^^ here some quotes: 1.

Let go of the things you don't love about your adolescent and adult years, and keep the good things. Just keep the things you love about your whole life.'
'When you're feeling joyful, you are giving joy, and you'll receive back joyful experiences, joyful situations, and joyful people, wherever you go. From the smallest experience of your favorite song playing on the radio to bigger experiences of receiving a pay raise - all of the circumstances you experiences are the law of attraction responding to your feeling of joy.'
4, 'Life isn't happening to you; life is responding to you.' 'Many people don't know about the power of good feelings, and so their feelings are reactions or responses to what happens to them. They have put their feelings on automatic pilot, instead of deliberately taking charge of them.'
'Every single second is an opportunity to change your life, because in any moment you can change the way you feel.' 'The difference between someone who is struggling and someone who has a fabulous life comes down to one thing - love. Those who have a great life imagine what they love and want, and they feel the love of what's they're imagining more than other people.' 'Whatever you can imagine is waiting for you, fully created in the invisible, and the way to make it visible is to harness the force of love by imagining and feeling what you love.'
'Whatever is in your magnetic field is attracting to itself, and so the more love in your field, the more power you have to attract the things you love.' 'The more love you give in your day-to-day life, the greater the magnetic power of love you have in the field around you, and everything you want will fall at your feet.' So how do you fall in love with life? The same way you fal in love with another person - you adore everything about them! You fall in love with another person by seeing only love, hearing only love, speaking only love, and by feeling love with all your heart! And that is exactly how you use the ultimate power of love in love with life.'
'You are the driver of your mind, so take charge and keep it busy with your instructions by telling it where you want it to go. Your mind only takes off on its own if you are not talling it what to do.' 'When anything good happens to you in your day, give thanks. It doesn't matter how small it is, say thank you. When you get the perfect parking space, hear your favorite song on the radio, approach a light that turns green, or find an empty seat on the bus or train, say thank you.
These are all good things that you are receiving from life.' 'Your imagination is more real that then the world you see, because the world you see comes from what you imagine and believe! What you believe and feel to be true is what will be your life.'
'Whatever story you tell, whether good or bad, will be the story of your life. So start telling the story of your amazing life, and the law of attraction must make sure you receive it.' 'If you're not feeling good and you want to change the way you feel, or if you want to lift good feelings higher, then take a minute or two and god through a mental list of everything you love and adore.
You can do it while getting dressed in the morning, walking, driving or traveling anywhere.' 'What does it mean to be healthy? You may think that being healthy means that you are not sick, but being healthy is far more than that. If you feel okay, or average, or nothing much at all, you are not healthy.' 'Being healthy is feeling the same way as little children feel.
Little children are bursting with energy every day. Their bodies feel light and flexible; moving is effortless. They're light on their feet. Their minds are clear; they're happy, and free of worry and stress. They sleep deeply and peacefully every night, and they wake up feeling completely refreshed, as if with a brand-new body.
They feel passionate and excited about every new day. Look at little children and you will see what being healthy really means. It is the way you used to feel, and it is the way you should still feel.' 'Whatever you believe about your body, your cells believe too. They don't question anything you think, feel, or believe.
In fact, they hear every thought, feeling, and belief you have.' 'If you think or say, 'I always get jetlag when I travel,' your cells receive 'jetlag' as a command, and they must carry out your instructions. Think and feel that you have a weight problem, and your cells receive the order of a weight problem. They must follow your instructions and keep your body in an overweight condition.' 'You are the ruler of a kingdom, and whatever you think and feel becomes the law of your kingdom - the law within your body.'
'Gratitude is the great multiplier, so say thank you for your health every single day.' 'Before you eat food or drink water, look at what you're about to eat or drink and feel love and gratitude. Make sure your conversations are positive when you are sitting down to a meal.' 'Remember it only takes giving love and good feelings a minimum of 51 percent of the tiem to reach the tipping point and change everything.' Okay, so I read this quite a while ago. I have no idea how his whole Law of Attraction thing is still holding its own. Apparently, it's been so successful that the author decided to write a sequel?
Let me try to count the things that are wrong with this: One: The fact that the advice in this book is marketed as some big secret when in fact it's not. Let me try to count the things that are wrong with this: One: The fact that the advice in this book is marketed as some big secret when in fact it's not. Not really. If you haven't read this gem let me save you the hassle.
The secret is this: 'If you think about something you long and hard, it'll instantly manifest itself to you'. This felt especially like a con to me because when I first heard of this book on Oprah(That's two book recommendations from her that sucked, looking at you James Fry.) well, I spent the whole time trying to figure out what the big secret was. And that's all the author has to say for herself? Just wish for stuff real hard?!
Two: The premise to the book will have you believe that the 'universe' will 'manifest' your wishes for you just by your wanting them hard enough.(and no,it doesn't sound less Hocus Pocusey when you read it yourself) But then there's advice that tells you to start taking action towards achieving your wishes. Do you mean, work for what I want?!! Another mind blowing bit of advice! Could this be just another self-help-get-your-ass-off-the-couch type book in disguise? Three: The way there are two distinct volumes practically advertising the same thing. We get it, lady.
You've suckered a whole lot of people and you're a millionaire now. Do you really need to keep living the lie? Four: The ridiculous way these books claim that people who aren't rich or don't have a brand new car are only that way because they're sabotaging themselves with negative thinking. How dare she, really?? This is the sort of capitalist propaganda that's designed to keep the working class from realizing they've been screwed over by the government and the small circle of rich people who benefit from the poor remaining poor. Also, is cancer a product of negative thinking? How about if I'm killed in a drone strike in a third world country?
Did I bring that upon myself with my negativity as well? Finally: Any successful person who tells you they got where they are by being positive and wishing really hard is yanking your chain.
End of story. As a matter of fact, they might be deliberately giving you false information to keep you from getting where you want.(that way they have less competition). I listened to the audio book, which despite it's potential for cheesiness, I did enjoy. I'm not sure if I would have gotten the same thing out of just reading the book. Hearing Byrne's passion probably helped.
I know some people think 'it's nothing new.' Of course it's nothing new; there's nothing new under the sun. Yes, it's saying the same thing as The Secret; there's only one thing to say! I liked the anecdotes; part of me wants to question them and say they're made up, but I know from my own life that things like that happen all the time, so I do believe them. I think this book did a good job of emphasizing the importance of feeling good feelings. I definitely didn't recognize that before; maybe I would try to think positive thoughts about something I wanted and try not to feel fear, but this book emphasizes the importance of feeling positively all of the time.
So now I'm more conscious about any time I have negative feelings, and I try to turn them around. Definitely worth a listen. Who couldn't stand to think and feel more positively?
There's nothing really new per se in The Power that wasn't already explained in The Secret. There are also a lot of good techniques provided to make things start to work in your favor. I can understand why some might be disappointed, frustrated with the repetition or expecting something all new, but the truth is that people rarely get it the first time they are exposed to something. I can understand why some might be disappointed, frustrated with the repetition or expecting something all new, but the truth is that people rarely get it the first time they are exposed to something. And often, they don't get it after being exposed to the same thing numerous ways. Sometimes you need information presented in a new way, using different words, and I felt like that was the point here. To go a bit more in depth on some things, to reword others, to present the material in a new way in order to help fill in the gaps for those who got it and to help those who didn't arrive at their aha moment.
This book was exactly what I was expecting. A nice follow-up to The Secret. It just builds upon what was learned in The Secret about the law of attraction. The Power's description states that you don't need to have read The Secret in order to benefit from The Power. I would agree with that, but I think it definitely helps. Okay so the things that were bad about the book was the repetitiveness. She kept repeating herself and saying the same things again and again. It is also a bit cheesy. But I do understand how it is true and how it works. I tried the things and I did get what I wanted from it and my life HAS been better since. I KNOW that the things written in this book is not rubbish or Ludacris! I know it is true!

How much more obvious can it be I mean she only stated it about a million times! Everyone wants to be happy right? And there is no other way to be happy than to give out good feelings and be positive and if you only imagine the good outcomes and good things to happen to you they are far more likely to happen and I know this because I understand it and because I have done it and it has happened to me. All my life I have been so negative and many people have said it to me. This book is what I really needed! My life has gotten a million times better completely due to this book! Things I thought there was no way out of.
Literally what I would describe as miracles happened to me. People have said I seem happier and what I mean by happier is actually happy not as it all la la la and 'brainwashed'. I don't think it is overexaggerated they way Rhonda describes it as a secret.
Okay so yeah it isn't really a huge big treasure that no ones knows. People do know it. But they don't seem to be able realise it and I think this is why Rhonda as made out that it is a secret. Not nearly enough people are acting apon it and it really is an amazing power. Not nearly enough people know it. I think if everyone in the world thought this way, all bad from the world would eliminate itself. There would still be some bad but only minor things that would be easily resolved. Some people might think that what I am saying it bullcrap but that is just negative thinking!
The people that realise this well good for them and as for the people that are too thick to think about it and to realise it well then keep that to themselves I certainly don't think they should go complaining about it on this because they just can't understand it for themselves. I understand what Rhonda is saying and I know it is true. And look at her?
She has so much of what she wants and is a millionare! I too have many examples in my life of how it has worked and of how I am happier, healthier and richer. So if you read this review, and you think the book is rubbish and that it is untrue, I am telling you it is true and that it just hasn't clicked with you and that you should not go complaining about it when you actually havn't got a clue about the book!

Our favourite SHAM Expert tries to convince us that after reading her first 'book', we are in the half-way point to become so happy and wise as she is, but we can do this, we can reach it, the apogee of nirvana, if we buy and read her next money-earner 'The Power'. I hope she eventually stole all of reader's money and from now, she will not write more 'guides'.
The sad truth about 'The Power' is that you know everything about Byrne's idea after reading three, four pages. She repeats herself, going in circles, paraphrasing her own sentences; you catch the keynote in the first chapter, and later on, you're just getting more and more bored and annoyed. The keynote of 'The Power' is love. 'Everything you want to be, do, or have comes from love.
Without love, you wouldn't move. There would be no positive force to propel you to get up in the morning, to work, play, dance, talk, learn, listen to music, or do anything at all. You'd be like a stone statue'. Passing over in silence the fact that in this quote there are only infantile trifles and nonsenses, let's focus on the way Byrne leads her contemplation.
Actually, this is the perfect method of convincing people. She starts with some peculiar hipothesis and then, she's coming up with more and more preposterous examples to 'confirm' her delusion. She knows what is she doing. Earning money. Duping innocent people. Well, it's pretty dangerous.
'To bring a specific desire to you, follow the simple steps of the Creation Process'. What's the Creation Process? Once again - mankind's secret ability of making miracles, changing the world just after thinking about this change. Oh, we was so blind we've been overlooking THE TRUTH for AGES. Thanks, Rhonda, you opened our eyes, rescued the whole earth. (And also scraped some dough.) It's not only repeating her own sentences from previous page, it's also repeating her own ideas from the previous book.
'The imagination connects you to what you want'. People are praising 'The Power' upon it's spiritual oddity and wisdom. There is nothing spiritual in 'The Power'.
Does the author even BELIEVE in her own words? It's too silly even for someone who writes two times the same twaddle. As it was in 'The Secret', here we also have the chapter about Byrne's favourite thing. 'Most people would say they love money, but if they don't have enough, they don't feel good about it at all'. (Her language is astouding). 'The reason why so many people feel bad about money is that they have negative beliefs about money and those negative beliefs were fed into their subconscious minds when they were children'. I would never think about it this way.
Rhonda thinks that if you LOVE money, you'd have a lot of them. How does she imagine it? If I opened my heart, I'd receive a tree of money?
Just like that? Send 'The Power' to Africa.
I've heard that most of the information in 'The Power' comes from the New Thought Movement of the early 1900s. If so, I have no questions.
She isn't stupid, she's appallingly canny. Byrne's books are so lousy, so weak, that you're really curious about them; what is she going to teach us next? Well, curiosity killed the cat. The quotes from many great people have supported her effortlessly. So it must be something that they knew about. Quotes from the leaders of some of the world's largest religions also go hand in hand with what the author is saying - Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc. It certainly will not do you any harm! I would recommend giving this book a try:). The author suggests we must make a paradigm shift in our way of thinking to harness the powers of the universe (may I suggest 'God') in our own behalf.
Her book centers on the principle of the 'law of attraction'; or in otherwords, we receive back what we send out. Within that law, Byrne suggests that we should focus on 'love', or loving those things which we truly desire. Her book centers on the principle of the 'law of attraction'; or in otherwords, we receive back what we send out. Within that law, Byrne suggests that we should focus on 'love', or loving those things which we truly desire. She asserts it is wrong to focus attention on the negative; if we will focus instead on the positive by 'imagining' or 'visualizing' ourselves to be the person or have the qualities we desire, the law of attraction takes over and eventually gives them to us. The author's implication is that these desires will be for our good and we will not seek that which will be to our detriment. (May I suggest a person can also become evil by loving evil instead of loving good).
While most of what the author espouses is consistent with the teachings of divine truth (and finds support in the doctrines of Jesus Christ), I take issue with certain of the author's assertions. For example, the author suggests there is only one force in the universe, which is 'love', and everything else is the 'lack of love.' She dispels the existence of a devil (Satan) or animate forces of evil which are bent on man's destruction. This conflicts with the Savior's encounter with Satan in the New Testament and to the casting out of 'devils' and 'unclean spirits' given in the account of his ministry. (See also Lehi's teachings in the Book of Mormon (2 Nephi 2) where a prophet speaks of the need for an 'opposition in all things' as part of God's eternal plan.) More glaringly, her book makes no overt mention of the existence of God, his plan of salvation for his children, and his contant divine intervention in the affairs of man. It is true, God gives to man is agency to act and we must ask (act) to receive his help, but please, give the glory to God and not to man. Nevertheless, the author is correct in asserting that each person's character (life) is ultimately determined by (first) his thoughts, which mold (second) his feelings, which translate into (third) his actions (and ultimately his happiness or misery), all made possible by the great gift of 'life' God has given to us.
This beautifully designed hardcover was given to me by a friend. I had read The Secret and wasn't quite sure the author would have to say. Right now, I'm halfway through The Power and must say that it is a mixture of things I needed to be reminded of and then some things I didn't quite know. There's this focus on love in the book, but in practice it's more about what you like, so it's less effortful than the kind of loving that, for instance, Scott Peck spoke about. There's this focus on love in the book, but in practice it's more about what you like, so it's less effortful than the kind of loving that, for instance, Scott Peck spoke about. Anyhow, it looks like the key to life here is knowing and feeling what you love. You can't get by on a belief and you can't get by on a feeling, but when you couple a belief with feeling, (and it's not crooked) you have The Power to attract your dream. I've been testing this out a bit and I think there is something slightly more positive going on in my life as a result.
Maybe I'll write a sequel review when I finish the book. The Power is like a guide to the universe. I took this book to heart and learned a lot from it. The attractiveness to the book is almost magical and spectacular in regards to how it connects to the reader.

I disliked the simplistic language used in this book and that the beginning of the book was meant to appeal to our greedy side 'You can have money!'
I'm all for positive thinking because it does affect how we experience life, but I do not believe that we can sit back and think our dream car to ourselves nor that we accidentally bring negative things to ourselves by unknowingly thinking of them too much. Sometimes things just happen.
Sometimes we need to work for what we want. I think we're here to learn lessons and the Universe deals us cards that we don't want for that purpose. It doesn't spoil us by giving us what we want, but challenges us with struggles to make us better people in the long run. 2 of 2 people found this review helpful. Place Maxwell Maltz's 'Psycho-Cybernetics', Norman Vincent Peale's 'The Power of Positive Thinking', and Richard Bach's Jonathan Livingston Seagull into a black caldron. Boil, stir, and add a pinch of Haight/Ashbury flower-child poetry from the 1960's just to spice up the brew a bit. What do you get? A potent mix for a new cult of 'The Secret' followers.
If it sounds too good to be true, rememer, it always is. And just like The Force in Starwars, there's a very dark side to 'The Secret': any victim of random violence, accidents and/or natural disaters brought it on themselves by 'thinking wrong thoughts.' What a bunch of blame-the-victim dribble. 5 of 6 people found this review helpful. Donec in tortor in lectus iaculis vulputate.
